Mary Poppins:

Photo on 4-28-15 at 3.16 PM #2One of my favorite parts of dating Mads is that she enjoys my voice. It’s weird for me because I feel like no one has appreciated my love for singing. In fact, I don’t believe I possess a good voice; yet, I greatly enjoy singing. I had the greatest opportunity tonight by singing lullabies to Mads. Tonight, I sung that lullaby from Mary Poppins:

“Stay awake, don’t rest your head
Don’t lie down upon your bed
While the moon drifts in the skies
Stay awake, don’t close your eyes

Though the world is fast asleep
Though your pillow’s soft and deep
You’re not sleepy as you seem
Stay awake, don’t nod and dream

Stay awake, don’t nod and dream”

It brings me such joy to sing, and it brings me greater joy to sing to Mads and be appreciated. It reminds me of a verse that I attach to my emails.

The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. (Psalm 28:7 ESV)

My interpretation might be incorrect here, but what I see in my life reflects this verse. Because I realize my hope is in Him and how sovereign He is, that is where my joy comes from. My heart longs to sing because I realize what Christ has done for me. My life goal is to glorify Him, and if that’s singing lullabies to my fiancée or singing praises to Him, I yearn to please Him.

p.s. If you know any good lullabies, let me know. Always looking to expand my repertoire.
